Week 9: Future Psych

Dear AP Psych Student,

I learned a lot in Ms Halfen's psychology class despite it only lasting one semester. I felt much more prepared for the AP test in May than if I had to self study the material or take the course over the summer. One piece of advice that I would give is to do the vocabulary in a timely manner even if Ms Halfen says it's optional. It only takes a maximum of 30 minutes each day, and the study plan doesn't assign vocabulary on the weekends. I personally found it less stressful to skip a couple days of vocab during the schooldays and catch up on the weekend. Also, I encourage borrowing or purchasing a review book (Princeton, Barron's, Five Steps, etc) at the beginning of the course. This helps a lot when doing the assigned vocabulary, and I noticed some terms on the tests that I only knew about due to my review book.

My favorite activity was the quizlet live reviews before the tests, and I think more of these should be done next year. A lot of people were extrinsically motivated to win each round because of the extra test points that were rewarded. Therefore, people were actively engaged in reviewing the psych material.

I think that there should be less content digs because I didn't retain much of the information after doing them. I understand that these worksheets are supposed to introduce each unit, but I don't think this was very effective. Everyone was focused on completing these worksheets within the 50 minute class period. I think that if the content digs are administered in the middle of each unit to reinforce psych knowledge, it would be more beneficial because students would have some knowledge of the material already.
